About the Artist

Jackie Smith has been painting portraits, still lifes, and landscapes in oil for over 25 years, and her paintings hang in private homes and businesses throughout the country. More recently she has discovered that mixing a cold wax medium into her oil paint allows her the ability to build up several layers of color and texture, and create a translucency that is not possible with oil alone. Scraping back into the paint layers or using a solvent to reveal underlying layers allows for beautiful and usually unexpected results. This process of addition and subtraction fascinates her and stimulates her creative process as she explores the infinite possibilities this process allows.
